ANTIFOLK.NET AIM IM with phoebekreutz 4:13 PM are you there
woohoo yay i still haven't smoked
i had one after lunch. filtered?
but only because my friend was and I wanted to be sociable. 4:15 PM
yeah, filtered. I'm no gangster. wus
we can't all be badasses like you some people are half-assed not me
I hope you're not implying that I am half-assed. If there's one thing I am, it's full-assed. would you considered your ass your best feature?
Well, Dashan has always been partial to it. And I defer to him on most matters. he seems to be part of this huge antifolk-boy harem you've collected how many are you juggling now?
Dude, it's not like that. mmm-hmmmm
I don't consider them a harem. That would imply that they were all servicing me sexually day and night. And I can assure you that that is not the case. just at night then?
I don't know why I seem to always end up being buddies with big groups of boys. Girls scare me sometimes. And boys tend to be out more. And drunker. what scares you about girls? 4:20 PM
Oh, you know. Just seventh grade stuff. Boys are easier for me to relate to. But I'm working on it. well, i'm tellin ya, you could have your pick of the litter girls or boys? 100% of the boys and damn good portion of the girls
I don't think that's true. I think there's always a fair amount of excitement when a new girl comes on the scene, just because there aren't too many of us. But I'm old hat now. sweet of you to say, though. 4:25 PM oh, you soooooo blind!
now i'm blushing. even better
ok new topic
yes are you psyched for the fest?
totally psyched. you toured last year with Jenn Lindsay right?
correct, sir. will you do anything together at the fest?
i think time will prohibit it, sadly. we never even wrote a song together in all our outings. odd, no?
odd yes well, there are so many cool acts every night. Amy did a fantastic job putting it together i'll be practically camping out at Sidewalk that week
She did. She's great. She's ben doing a swell job all around. i may put off this no smoking thing 'til after the fest...we'll see ok, let's turn this around...you ask me a question
The fest is going to be madness. I will be there most nights I imagine as well. Okay, shoot. 4:30 PM you ask me a question...so, you shoot
OH, I get it. lol
What was your favorite place you played on your last trip? psychedlic trip or tour trip?
Tour, silly. Though if psychedelic has a better answer... i enjoyed playing the smaller clubs better than the large halls. In Canterbury I played the Local Heros Record Shop which is also a venue. A great community. as fun as it was playing for big crowds, they weren't there to see me 4:35 PM but to see the headline,so I had to conquer new crowds everynight
Record shop in England. That's so High Fidelity. I like new crowds better generally. Because they haven't heard my dopey punchlines yet. at the small clubs they knew me, people had Testosterone Kills t-shirts, the DJ played Jeff Lewis, they shouted out song titles. That was way more fun
That does sound like fun. you would go over quite well in England and they'd love you on the uK Antifolk scene any plans to go over there?
I'd just about sell my mom to go over there. But I don't really know where to start and I'm really lame at organizing and promoting etc. I've been really lucky to have fallen in with people who are good at that side of things. I'm pretty useless. But I'm never grouchy in a cramped van. ahhh, you can learn, yr a smart cookie what songwriters would you say opened you up to songwriting?
I guess I could learn. It just goes against my grain so much, I'm getting stressed just thinking about it. Well, I grew up on Cole Porter and P.G. Wodehouse and Gershwin and stuff. what led you to the Sidewalk scene?
They were such amazing lyricists. what led you to the Sidewalk scene?
Sidewalk is very conveniently located to my home, so it might just have been a matter of location. But I guess, not being a very proficient musician, I was pretty turned off by a lot of open mics I went to. Places where it was all about your guitar chops. Sidewalk seemed like a place I could do my thing and people would get what I was doing and not be mad that I didn't know an A chord from an asshole. seems to've worked I'm really happy. any recording plans?
The friends that I've made... I don't know what people do in this city who don't play music. Urban Barnyard needs to record soon. Daoud is going back to Yale in the fall and we need something for posterity before that sorrowful day. school...shudder
I know. It's the least punk rock exuse ever. Didn't you enjoy school? by the time i was heading into senior year i knew i was a songwriter, so I saw no need for college though i was enrolled in two of them
Yeah, they ain't gonna teach you songwritin' in no book-learnin' house. which two? SUNY Purchase (which has been the home to many an Antifolk) and Boston University
hey, I went to BU for a year! That place blew monkey nuts. 4:50 PM I was just enrolled there, didn't really attend class
good move. mostly drank wine, smoked pot, ate acid and listed to Tom Waits, Eno and Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy
That was definitely my era of drug experimentation. Maybe it's Boston. Have you taken the dreaded LSD?
is that the same as acid? yes, my dear
then yes. how many times?
4 I think fun?
yeah, 4
Umm, yeah. I never had a really bad experience. One time I thought the floor was covered in rats. But then I remembered I was tripping. So I went outside. No rats. I was more of a mushroom gal though. any feelings of 'holiness' with them?
no. i hate rats. Alot. not with the rats...but at anytime under the influence
OH, you mean drugs! yeeeeessssssss
OHhhh... lol
Well, then, yeah, sure. I mean, maybe not holiness. I didn't see god or anything. But I definitely had those moments of "wow, the world is so big and pretty and I'm the freakin' queen of the elf people or whatever." sounds good, and you are queen of the elf people!
I'm not playing D&D with you, Lach, if that's what you're getting at, but it so fits you! That would definitely be a job I would like to apply for. Hard to be an elf queen in the city, though, it seems. Trees are pretty mandatory. And I ain't no hippie.
Here's a question: Who would you be most amped to see come strolling into the antihoot? (and Andy Dick doesn't count cuz he was already there!) 5:00 PM Several things come to mind first was Bob Dylan
yup next...Paul McCartney
really? Even after that whole "freedom" debacle? next, various people from the scene over the past twenty years that I haven't seen in a long time Well, I'm not a fan of a lot of Paul's work, but on the other hand Paul Freakin Mccartney
I imagine you have to get comfortable with separations in your line of work. I could go on and on Okay. I could see that. And I would like to ask him what the hell he's been thinking lately. Because he was, of course, a beatle. well, he's the richest musician ever and a big pothead so...draw yr own conclusions
Who, apparently, were quite good. yes, especially their early, funny stuff oh, wait, that was Woody Allen
That applies to most people, seems like. ok, my royal elf queen...
Is it now time? yes we must part
It's true. I have puppets to wrangle. And you have cigarettes to smoke. thanks for the interview, we'll get it up on antifolk.net over the next few days shit, i forgot to ask you about the puppets!
Sweet. I hope you'll fix all my spellings. I hate talking about the puppets anyway. but at least everyone now knows you are an acid queen of the elfin Antifolk boys!
ta-ta xxooxx Adios, my little amigo!
