Phoebe, welcome to antifolk.net and all that stuff

lovely to be here, lach

let's do a few quickies to get warmed up

ok...what was the first record you ever bought yourself?

Jesus, I think it was Mariah Carey's debut album. But I only bought it cuz my cool friends told me to. I swear. Really.

what was the first album you bought because you liked it?

Out of time- rem, I think.

12:00 PM

still like it?

Yeah, actually, I hadn't listened to it in probably 8 years. But I was just in Athens, GA and my friend put it on to be appropriate. It sounded pretty dope.

Do you have music on now?

No, but I was just wishing I did.

well, put some on!

ok. be right back.

ok

ok

what did you put on?

the proclaimers. I thought about getting something cooler so I could tell you I was listening to some avante garde art rock band from norway or something. But I didn't want to be a faker.

when did you start writing songs?

12:05 PM

in high school. I wrote a song called "email love" when that was all new and exciting.

do you remeber your first Antihoot? What was it like?

But my dad and I used to jam when I was a kid- just making up lyrics while he played guitar.

My first antihoot- that was long before I started coming regularly.

This boy brought me. That was pretty much my whole focus.

But I remember the moldy peaches playing.

I don't think I'd ever heard anything like that overlappy thing they did before.

They were so much fun when the first arrived on the scene

I remember all the cool kids sitting over on that bench on the left.

way intimidating.

It's like first day at school vibe

totally

so, now that you've been around a bit what advice would you give a newcomer to the scene

wow, I'm not sure that anyone would benefit from my dubious wisdom.

I think they would

umm... well, I would say that being friendly is good. But not too friendly or you'll get the rep of being "that smiley guy". Telling people when you like their music leads to friendship. So does smoking.

i haven't had a cig yet today

good for you.

my neither

me, that is

i feel like i wanna smoke one while doing this interview!

i will if you will!

i'm all out but i gotta go move the car so i'll be passing the deli...

i'll be back in 15 minutes...ok?

you can have one of mine. Oh, wait. This is a computer.
