The last few Mondays have had a smaller turn-out, very few longtimers and somehow this has been very refreshing. First off, a whole new batch of artists are getting a chance to breath and explore and we've been treated to discovering some great new stuff. People like, Erin Regan, Lixian, Jerry Cherry, Geoff Baker, Army of Love. New comics like Rob , Logan and Roman. It's funny hearing artists who have been on the scene for a while drop by and complain that they don't know anyone or that 'it just isn't the same'. Good! This is the way it's always been. At one point they were the newbies no-one knew and the acts from a few years previous said the same exact things about them! Meanwhile, the great new songs keep getting written, wonderful new personalities arrive and get involved and it all seems to make sense again during the Antifolk Fests when people get to see the expansive and joyous community that's been smack in front of their faces all along! I had a blast last night hearing Max's homemade cigarbox guitar, Geoff Baker's new song, Erin's 'get in the car' song, Andrew Katz at the piano , Nan Turner rockin the electric and playing western piano. Once the holidays pass and the Fest approaches look for the Mondays to heat up even more with a ferocious creative fire.
