1/17/03- The night started with Fenton Lawless. Fenton was in casual mode wearing 'Lach' glasses and sitting down to play. The loose style worked well and brought the audience into his circle. It was a freezing cold night but Lawless warmed the crowd with his comfortable manner and a solid set of well-crafted, enjoyable tunes. By the set's end the audience was singing and howling along to the classic "Duke of Dogs". We missed the second act, Jeremy Wallace, due to a secret mission but we returned to Sidewalk in time for The Bitter Poet and The Sound of Angst. Very glad we did. The Poet is a real showman part Vegas part Beatnik. He recites and sings over a kickass band. His pieces are funny, sexy and provocative. If that ain't enough he provided a steady stream of go-go dancers, belly-dancers and a hula-hoop spinning showgirl! Hat's off to Fenton and The Bitter Poet for turning a cold evening into a hot night!
